Declaration on the Program of
Hungarian Christian Democratic Alliance

Nine more months to go and the Hungarian electors will appoint those who will govern the country for the next four years. It will be decided: who will lead our Homeland on the brink of the new millennium? Who will achieve our joining of NATO and the European Union.

We the members of the Hungarian Christian Democratic Alliance wish for the close co-operation of like-minded political parties to come to fruition at last. We demand that these parties do not put up candidates against each other, rather they run together in every electoral district taking responsibility for the nation. They can thus aggregate the votes of citizens wishing for the co-operation of moderate political forces and those who treasure national and Christian values. We believe that such a co-operation will be fruitful.

The national and Christian values expects today of politics the strengthening of municipalities and relying on them. A strong society can only created by strong municipalities. The central government shall, in turn provide solutions for the burdening troubles of the country.

The new government shall:

Only through the realisation of these goals can the country honourably celebrate the thousand year-old anniversary of the crowning of its first Holy King. The aim of the work of the members of the Hungarian Christian Democratic Alliance is that the new Hungarian leadership should be able to draw from Saint Stephen’s tradition, and should wish not to deteriorate this unmatched anniversary!

It is the resolute aim of the Hungarian Christian Democratic Alliance to co-operate with all political forces whose activity is harmonic to those expressed above. We know that politics built on these will win the support of the majority of the electors! Thus a new age may dawn: this is the true modernisation and real rise of Hungary.
